RCG & AML/CTF compliance checks on the increase

Liquor & Gaming NSW has already been making the rounds of clubs and pubs in the weeks leading up to the new requirements for Responsible Gaming Officers. They have been checking that staff have been trained and venues are prepared to meet the new compliance rules and have warned that they will be back after the new laws go live on July 1, 2024.

AUSTRAC has been very active in the casino sector of late, with Adelaide Casino, the latest venue to receive a major fine of $67 million for their failure to meet their requirements under anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism laws.

AUSTRAC has also highlighted that clubs will be an area of focus this year concerning monitoring AML/CTF issues. The financial crime watchdog’s new chief executive, Brendan Thomas, has said, “We’re having a look at the clubs’ sector in a much more focused way.”
