PLASTIC NO LONGER FANTASTIC AS MEMBERS MOVE TO DIGITAL CARDS

Linda Joannides

Ebet has reached a major milestone, issuing over 100,000 digital membership cards in the past 12 months. This benchmark, achieved in late October 2024, highlights Australian club members' strong acceptance of digital cards and mobile wallets.

Why Digital? Ebet’s instant Digital Membership Card, known as Joinit, provides all the functions of a physical card but with a lot more convenience and way more features. Access is instant and easy; members can join on their mobile phones by simply scanning a QR code. Unlike plastic cards, digital cards can’t be lost, damaged, or borrowed by someone else. Your digital card lives on your phone, safe in your digital wallet, always ready as long as you’ve got battery and reception.

Digital Adoption in Australia. According to ‘Digital 2024: Australia’ by Meltwater and We Are Social, only 3% of Australian internet users aged 16-64 don’t have smartphones. Putting that into perspective, that’s barely 756,300 people. This means that no matter the age demographics of your club, most members will have phones capable of displaying a digital membership card.

Apart from the identification solutions, Ebet’s Joinit allows members to store and pay via rewards and even receive targeted messages and offers via geolocators or a predetermined set of qualifying rules. The back of the card can link to club information and contact details as well as third-party booking systems for restaurants and ticketing.

Renewals are also a breeze and can be completed in minutes. Gone are the days of needing to get new cards printed and posted every year. With Joinit, whenever a member renews their membership, changes member levels or does anything else that will affect one of the fields on their card, the Ebet system can instantly generate an updated card.  Not only easier but a whole lot cheaper too.

No App Required. Ebet’s digital card sits comfortably in a member’s Apple, or Google digital wallet, without the need to develop an expensive app. However, if your venue already has an app, the digital card can integrate with it, adding flexibility for your club and its members.

Mobile Wallet Usage is Soaring.  The Australian Banking Association’s 2024 ‘Bank On It’ Report shows that in the last year alone, customer usage of mobile wallets has grown 35%. Payments via mobile wallets accounted for $126 billion last year, overtaking total ATM cash withdrawals ($105 billion) for the first time ever.

Scalable and Ready for Transformation. Ebet’s Joinit is your venue’s first step to digital transformation. The digital card is part of an integrated platform that has access to a whole suite of Marketing, Loyalty, Financial and Compliance capabilities. Members can use the digital card alone and add on additional functions like Ebet’s new Tapit technology that eliminates the need for physical cards when playing a gaming machine. Tapit is the first and only fully approved solution, now available across NSW and ready to implement.
